Director of Communications and Outreach
The Communications and Outreach Manager (“Manager”) is responsible for raising public awareness, understanding, and engagement in the mission and work of CASA of the Eastern Panhandle.
We are seeking a dynamic individual who thrives both in independent work and in collaborative team settings. This position demands a balance of high energy and meticulous attention to detail. The ideal candidate will take ownership of this role, aligning their efforts with CASA's values and mission.
We are looking for a candidate with excellent writing and verbal communication skills, strong storytelling abilities, social media expertise, and project management knowledge.
The ideal candidate should have experience in public relations, material development, and campaign management. They must demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm in community engagement activities, partnership building, and events. The Manager will be adept at identifying target audiences and creating customized messaging, campaigns, and community outreach plans to boost volunteer recruitment and support fundraising activities.
In this role, the Manager will work closely with all segments of the organization to promote CASA-EP programs, services, trainings, and events. They will contribute to strategic planning, priority setting, data collection, and team building to ensure organizational goals are met and a productive and supportive work culture is maintained and enhanced.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager will manage outside creative and print vendors and engage with the organization’s Board of Directors to increase the number of volunteers serving children in foster care. They will also help sustain and grow program funding to better serve our community’s most vulnerable families.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Lead the creation of digital, video, audio, and print content, including the writing/editing of press releases, mailings, and newsletters. Collaborate with staff and volunteers to research, create, and update strategic content.
- Oversee website development, maintenance, and design efforts, and ensure CASA-EP’s online presence, including event registration and donation systems, reflect CASA-EP’s brand standards and approved promotional messaging.
- Establish and maintain relationships with media outlets and handle public relations issues that arise internally or externally.
- Develop, execute, measure, and update comprehensive Strategic Communications/Outreach Plans, including clear metrics, timelines, budgets, and other project management and implementation details.
- In close collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, support efforts to grow fundraising across individual donor and business/corporation categories.
- Provide leadership and project management to friend- and fund-raising events and activities, including management of event sponsorships and corresponding deliverables.
- Increase CASA-EP’s presence in the community by planning, managing, and presenting--as appropriate--the CASA-EP mission and programs at strategic community events, meetings, and conferences.
- Actively engage in all data collection, reporting, and program evaluation activities for volunteer recruitment, retention, and fundraising. Ensure clarity on actions and timelines to provide thorough support for the achievement of those goals.
- Ensure that all messaging and materials are brand-aligned and mission-focused and respect the confidentiality for the children CASA-EP serves and their families.
- Develop digital and traditional advertising campaigns, manage budgets, track engagement across various platforms, and make data-driven decisions.
- Comply with CASA-EP’s financial policies to ensure cost-effective marketing/advertising services for awareness/recruitment/fundraising efforts.
- Participate in CASA-EP’s pre-service volunteer training.
- Coordinate communications’ efforts with NCASA and WV CASA messaging and campaigns as appropriate; maintain compliance with NCASA brand standards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing, community outreach, or fundraising roles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, as well as excellent team working qualities.
- Demonstrated success in producing newsletters, campaigns, and special events.
- Outstanding organization and project management skills, including attention to detail, comprehensive problem solving, and time- and people management aptitudes.
- Must be a self-starter and demonstrate a high-level of initiative.
- Experience working with database platforms and ability to produce reports, analyze data and information, and build strategic communication programs and campaigns.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communication technologies, social media platforms, and social media marketing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Suite, email marketing platforms, and other content management systems.
- Ability to respect and relate to individuals from various backgrounds and cultures in a caring and sensitive manner.
- Must be a dedicated and resilient advocate for vulnerable families, a persuasive communicator, and a collaborative partner and team builder.
